On the server side, the toolshed can record a UUID of the requester for generating per-user statistics - without recording user identities.  On the client side, if the toolshed sends confirmation, ChimeraX can automatically update registration expiration date if the user is already registered, so users who continue to use ChimeraX only needs to register once.
