Discussion Notes

  • PySide in next ChimeraX release?
    • Eric mentions many ChimeraX crashes related to PySide have been reported and we may use PyQt for the next release.
    • We don't need to renew the PyQt license to use the PyQt 6.10 in the next ChimeraX (June 2026) because that PyQt version was released during our current PyQt license period.
    • Scooter suggests checking PySide bug tracking to see if any of our crashes have been reported.
    • TomG suggest we can try PySide 6.10.3 when it comes out next week. Currently we are at 6.10.1.
    • We are not able to reproduce any of the PySide crashes.
  • PDBe wants public DockerHub ChimeraX
    • PDBe wants to use ChimeraX addh to add hydrogens in a structure processing workflow using NextFlow.

    • We told them that circumvents our ChimeraX license.
    • They said they will try other software to add hydrogens.
    • Eric suggests we could distribute a DockerHub ChimeraX without Qt libraries.
    • Greg will try to make a ChimeraX docker image.
  • ChimeraX metal graphics pull request
    • Tom Ferrin asked about large ChimeraX pull request to replace ChimeraX graphics from Mitch Murphy.
    • Discussed that that is no maintainable.
